In the last few years a few retail big box stores have started opening on Thanksgiving Day trying to get a jump on Christmas dollars. Not everyone has been in favor of this as traditionally Thanksgiving has been a family day, not a shopping day.
Locally, that trend has gone Winery Ugly with several tasting rooms deciding to open up. I guess to catch the visitors that can't spend even one full day with their relatives. Not a nice way to treat employees especially for someone like Ty Caton Vineyards who calls themselves "a small family-owned winery." One that doesn't care too much about their employees' families?
A couple of these wineries seem to have had the owners available so that's their choice, but most are asking their employees to come in rather than be with family. Where were their owners on Thanksgiving?
