Maybe you've heard of Wilson, Mazzocco, or Soda Rock wineries. That's just three of the eleven in the Wilson Artisan Wine collection throughout Sonoma and Mendocino Counties. It's definitely a collection, as Ken collects wineries, B&Bs, and vineyards like others collect bottles of wine. Ken and winemaker Diane Wilson's wineries also collect lots of gold medals.
Ken has added a new winery to his bevy of businesses.

Sonoma County's Truett Hurst / VML Wineries went public a few years ago, and it never seemed to work out for them. If you pay attention to any winery stock, such as Duckhorn (NAPA) you'll notice the steady downward trend while the S&P skyrockets in the other direction. Why is that? I'd guess because expenses are high and the rewards aren't good enough for investors.
Recently the winery was sold back to one of the original owners, Phil Hurst, along with Ken Wilson. They will be using the same winemaker from Truett Hurst. The tasting room will be next to one of Ken's other tasting rooms in Healdsburg. The actual property for the old Truett Hurst / VML was sold to someone else, so they are actually buying the label and probably some grape contracts. Add that to the 1,000 acres of vineyards owned by Ken, and I can image an expansion of the wines offered.
The beautiful Dry Creek Valley property was bought by local star winemaker Jess Katz and will be called Aesthete Wines. Jess also owns Aperture Cellars in the Russian River Valley.
