July

4  Various towns have fireworks, but the best, and most crowded event, will be the celebration in the town of Sonoma. It starts with a parade in the morning and ends with fireworks that evening. Some wineries are closed on the fourth.

12  Summer Wine Trail at various wineries in northern Sonoma County
Similar to the May 10th Spring Wine Trail.

Lodging and dinner reservations may be scarce in the area; traffic will not be scarce. The NHRA Sonoma Nationals the last weekend of July brings in people, too, but not like NASCAR.

18-20  Gay Wine Weekend in the Russian River and Healdsburg area
Various events at various locations at various prices.

19-20  Hot Air Balloon Classic in Santa Rosa at the county fairgrounds
You have got to get up early for this one.

August

1-10  Sonoma County Fair in Santa Rosa
Rides, contests, exhibits, music, rodeo, monster trucks, and lots of fair food.

9-10  Gravenstein Apple Fair in Sebastopol
Sebastopol was about apples before wine grapes took over. Now they celebrate both. Music, food, beer, wine, contests, farm displays.

September

13  Harvest Wine Trail at various wineries in northern Sonoma County
Similar to the May 10th Spring Wine Trail

18-20  Sonoma County Wine Celebration at various locations in and near Santa Rosa.
An auction to support local non-profits and other events through the weekend.

25-27  Valley of the Moon Vintage Festival, since 1897, in Sonoma
Celebrate the harvest with wine tasting, music, a fair, grape stomp, and a water fight by the firefighters. Some events are free, some ticketed.
