Wednesday, July 30, 2025, is National Cheesecake Day. You were probably wondering what wine to have with your favorite cheesecake.
When picking a wine for dessert, you strive for a wine of the same sweetness or slightly sweeter than the dessert.
A plain cheesecake calls for a late harvest Riesling or late harvest Sauvignon Blanc / Sauternes.
With a fruit topping, such as cherry or strawberry, the same wines work as with the plain cheesecake. You could also go with a sweet sparkling wine or late harvest Zinfandel.
Chocolate cheesecake with Ruby Port.
If the cheesecake is really rich, a sweet Madeira is an option.
Lemon cheesecake is a bit different and calls for a Moscato or even a drier sparkling wine.
Or you could pair it with coffee, though the type of cheesecake will determine whether you want a light roast or heavier roast. See, this is never easy. Maybe just a glass of milk. :)
