National Zinfandel Day!

Wednesday, Nov 19th, is National Zinfandel Day, so do the patriotic thing and celebrate!

This is a chance to try one of the many styles of Zin that might be new to you. There is the pink or salmon colored White Zinfandel. In its natural red wine form it can go from a dry wine that needs some time to age to the bold fruit forward, higher alcohol style. It's even made into a port-type fortified wine.

A few of the best places to grow Zin are Dry Creek Valley in Sonoma County, Amador County in the Sierra Foothills and Lodi in the San Joaquin Valley. Zinfandel is grown in many regions of California, with San Joaquin County (this includes Lodi) in the Central Valley growing the most. Sonoma County is a distant second in acreage.

It's grown in a few other states and countries. Zin's ancestral home is Croatia and is known as Primitivo in Italy.

Zinfandel has its own fan club, ZAP
