What to drink for National Cherries Jubilee Day?

September 24th is National Cherries Jubilee Day. It's autumn so fresh cherries are out of season. No, I don't know why this "holiday" isn't in June. The basic recipe consists of sweet cherries, ice cream and brandy. If you really want to do it up right make homemade ice cream and use Cognac. And try not to light the house on fire. So, what wine to pair with this dessert?

A slightly sweet sparkler is the first choice--maybe a rosé. There's always one style of bubbly or another that goes with anything and everything. There are probably some red wines, like a young, lush Zinfandel, that would work with the cherries, not sure about the ice cream. I never think of pairing ice cream and red wine, maybe you do.

A Framboise beer from Belgium would also work or you can find American beers done in this style. They are fermented with raspberries.

Personally, I'm waiting for someone to come up with Nat'l Chocolate Decadence Day.
