In the battle between Big Cork and screw cap lovers a cork manufacturer has decided to fill a niche that maybe you didn't know needed filling.
Meet the screwcork. It's a cork, it's not aluminum, and it's threaded. The screwcork requires a specially made bottle with a matching thread. Then you can unscrew and reseal the bottle all without a corkscrew.
Does it really seal as well as a traditional cork? Probably. How long can you hang on to a wine that's been opened then resealed? No different than with any other bottle seal. And the big one, is cork really better? Some will say cork is better for aging. Fine, do you really want to age a screwcorked wine for 40 years then try to break the seal and open it by hand and then reseal so you can have the rest tomorrow? Don't think so.
So the reason you'd want this is because a) you don't need a cork puller and b) you still don't trust screwcaps on wine.
