Premium Canned Wine

Wine in cans started with a sweet, fruity, fizzy beverage in a can with a cute, colorful label on the outside. It's growing up and becoming a beverage for adults rather than for college kids at the beach or maybe sneaking them into movie theaters and concerts.

Ready-to-drink (RTD) beverages, including canned wines, is a rapidly growing sector though it's still less than one percent of the U.S. wine market. That's really not bad considering the market was non-existent 25 years ago.

These premium wines in a can carry a higher price tag pushing $10. The cans are usually 250 ml or 375 ml. A traditional wine bottle is 750 ml.

Many of the wines are pink, some are spritzy, and may have a bit of residual sugar. They will be easy drinking. Most will be refreshing.

Underwood Wine from Oregon was one of the first and is reasonably priced and popular. Maker Wine and Broc Cellars are well-known California producers of premium can wine. You'll find them from Spain, Chile, and other parts of the globe.

Next time you are headed to the beach or a pool party throw some cans in a cooler.
