Today, March 8th, is International Women's Day. It seems the struggle women often have in "a man's world" is in the news more than ever. I thought this was an opportunity to highlight a few of my favorite winemakers, not because they're women, but because of the wines.
Merry Edwards, Merry Edwards Winery
Many love her for the Sauvignon Blanc, but it's her hand at understanding the delicacy of great Pinot Noir that makes her one of the top producers in the state.
Kathleen Inman, Inman Family Wines
It's all about Pinot Noir here, too, although her rosé also brings people in.
Susie Selby, Selby Winery
You could say she's quietly been making quality wines for over two decades. Selby is known for Chardonnay and Cabernet, but the Zinfandels really shine.
Carol Shelton, Carol Shelton Wines
Big reds! Okay, she makes other wines, too, but it's the Zinfandels and Petite Sirah that you'll fall for.
Diane Wilson, Wilson Winery
Diane and Ken Wilson now have ten wineries to their name. Diane is the winemaker for many of the wines. They're big and jammy and can best be described with two words: Gold medals (she has a habit of collecting these).
Woman-owned Sonoma County wineries
Disclaimer: I work p/t for one of these wineries listed
