Diet Wine

Dry table wines contain about 125 calories per five ounce glass. That's not a lot if you only have one glass, but what fun is that? Lower alcohol or no alcohol wines will have fewer calories.

about 80 calories / glass
Prosecco, that inexpensive, fun, sparkling wine from Italy often has about 11% alcohol and about two-thirds the calories of most wines. Some wines are marketed as low cal, like Yellow Tail's Pure Bright line of white wines. Note that most of these diet/skinny wines still have about 100 calories, often because they are slightly sweet, so they're not really saving you much.

Non-alcoholic wines are actually very low alcohol wine 0.5% alcohol or less) with about 50 calories per glass. Ariel, from California's Central Coast, makes a chardonnay and a cabernet. Sutter Home's Fre line of wines is another choice, plus there are others. These started out as "real" wine then had almost all the alcohol removed using a process called spinning cone. Often grape juice is added to further reduce the alcohol by volume.

I've never had any of these, so I can't vouch for the quality. I suppose the question is, do they taste at all like regular wine? Considering there's a big difference in a 15% ABV wine and a 13% wine, I'm guessing not. Try it yourself and decide. If you don't like them there are certainly other ways to cut back.
