According to a survey from Wine Intelligence, a wine consumer research company, about one in three adult Americans are regular drinkers of wine. That is, drink it at least once a month. Over 60% drink alcohol of some sort regularly. Why don't people drink more wine? The short answer is it's intimidating.
A better set of answers might come from this survey from the Wine & Viticulture Journal. You can click on the image to enlarge for readability.
It seems the key reason here is you look down the wine aisle(s) of a shop and are just plain overwhelmed. All these brands, types of wines, wines from all over the world. Where do you start if you're just looking for something to take to mom's for a chicken dinner?
Many also say they don't like wine, and that might be because of little exposure. Others in the survey say their friends don't drink it, but that goes back to people being afraid to start. The issue with getting headaches is interesting. Are they saying beer and booze don't give them headaches, but wine does?
The key item is finding it hard to select a wine. And I don't know how to fix this. Apparently, no one does. Maybe that starts with the common phrase, you have to make wine approachable. I'm not sure how to do that either. As the saying goes, if it were easy, we'd have trained monkeys doing the work for a lot less money. 😄 Cheers.
