The Sonoma County Harvest Fair has been going on since the mid-1970s opening with the 80s and 90s probably its high point. The wine judging is on any wine entered that is made from Sonoma County grapes.
This year's winners can be found here. There's also amateur wine and professional food competitions.
Weekend at the Harvest Fair wine tasting in a past year |
Over the years, the Harvest Fair has been slowly dwindling in scope. During its best years it was three days of produce and farming besides the wine tasting and grape stomping contest. There might be an old car show, an agricultural small engine demonstration, and Halloween-related activities for the kids. This year it's a one evening, somewhat pricey three-hour event. A lot of people will be left out of the wine tasting and other events with the lack of any daytime activities.
This past Saturday's wine tasting had a good turnout. There were lots of younger people, which is great for the future of wine. I'm not sure about the future of the county Harvest Fair.
