The Anti-Alcohol Movement

This one is aimed at the wine industry.

The anti-booze, neo-prohibitionists, and sober curious people are having their day. That shouldn't be treated as a problem for those in the wine biz, but it is for many, and that's a mistake.

No, no, and NO

The newest one, Sober October, just happened and we'll soon run into Dry January. These events make some wine folks vocally angry. Don't do that. Don't make the people jumping on these trends the enemy.

Wine plays a different role than spirits, beer, and other alcoholic drinks in that it's first a social beverage. Yes, beer is a bit like that, too, but it's never about just having one. Wine should come with less focus on the alcohol and more on having a glass at the dinner table with friends, or a glass at a wine bar with coworkers, etc.

The focus should be on a glass of wine when you are in a particular situation, and that situation isn't when mommy needs her Chardonnay as soon as the kids head off to school. That might be funny, but it's the wrong image.

It's a glass in a happy situation. Let's start there. Let's be in a different place than bourbon.
