A story for all the times you've planned to have just one drink ...
SANTA ROSA, CA - Bob and Jim hit the downtown wine bar last night after dinner. Bob, "We'll just have one because tomorrow is a work day. I have things to do." Jim, "The wives expect us home at a decent time. We can't rip it up tonight and stare at young women and all that stuff, you know?"
At 8:30 that evening a couple appetizer plates were ordered. Both had finished their glasses of local Pinot Noir and hit the bathroom. While he was gone Jim ordered two glasses of Zinfandel. Bob comes back and laughs, "Well, we gotta wash down this greasy food with something."
At 9:30 pm a long-lost friend of both, Lynn, walks in. What a surprise! She orders a nice, jammy Zinfandel along with another for Bob. Jim orders a Petite Sirah because, he says, "Things are getting serious now." Besides all have easy jobs in wine hospitality and don't have to be at work for another twelve hours.
There's lots of catching up to do. Somewhere along the line Port gets ordered to finish up the evening as it's really a dessert substitute. Of course, there's no rule saying you can only have one Port as they discover an aged (and expensive) Dow Port on the list--a rare find!
Being a wine bar they close at 11 pm rather than 2 am like real bars. Bummer.
Late the next morning they are all pouring wine for visitors even though it doesn't look at all good to them. Tonight a local tap room is having "Lagunitas Night" with some new releases. Sounds like fun!
