When the grapes ripen late summer and into the fall they can make a great meal for birds. You can see flocks of a thousand starlings swirling around vineyard land. There are several different methods used in an attempt to keep them from taking most of your crop (and your money).
You might see the glitter from shiny foil strips hung in vineyards. The light shining off the strips is supposed to scare them away. Some put bird houses that can bring in predators that these birds don't like. Or even just a predator decoy. Some go as far as to buy and install netting to cover the vineyard, but it's a PITA to install and remove. There are ultrasonic devices that will keep birds out of a small area. They're supposed to be safe around cats and dogs so this might work if you have a bird problem at home.
The latest? You have to love innovation because we now have robotic lasers. I wonder if there's one to keep salesmen away from the front door?
