If you've ever visited one of the wine country chic cutesy towns it's probably for the easy wine tasting opportunities. Along with wine there's usually restaurants and souvenir shopping. In Sonoma County the towns of Sonoma and Healdsburg fall in this category. Both get lots of visitors who like the convenience of walking around these small towns.
Can there be too much of a good thing?
The City of Sonoma has talked about limiting wine tasting room in the center of town for quite awhile and they've finally voted to do something about it. The numbers of wine tasting rooms has gone up significantly since the end of the recession. Locals say they want more variety, but no one knows what else will come in. More shops? More restaurants? Gee, they've already turned down a cannabis dispensary.
The underlying bit of this no one is saying is that they'd like to cut the number of tourists visiting the town. They know that's unpopular as this is what drives the local economy.
