Ever wonder why some are lightweights when it comes to drinking and others can pack it away? Here are factors that play into one's tolerance.
Gender
It seems that men can drink more before showing the effects. It's fairly common knowledge that larger people can, too, whether male or female.
Genetics
There are enzymes that metabolize alcohol plus make a difference on how susceptible you are to hangovers. Some people are deficient here.
Alcohol tolerance with usage
The body adapts to higher alcohol use. This includes rapid metabolism so frequent drinks often don't show the effects as easily. If you are a frequent drinker and take a break from booze for awhile you probably noticed when you went back you felt the effects much sooner.
Keep in mind
Let's say you are a daily drinker and go out with a smaller person who has a drink once every week or two. You might feel fine after a couple drinks where your friend is tipsy -- something to remember if they're driving.
