Wondering Who Controls the U.S. Wine Market?

You might not be surprised that it's Gallo. After its latest acquisitions of Ravenswood, Clos du Bois and others, they own over 30% of the American market. Where they really dominate is in the lower end of the retail business.

This strategy isn't new as Gallo got going on the likes of Gallo Hearty Burgundy, Ripple, Thunderbird, Strawberry Hill, and Bartles & Jaymes. For many of us, these are the wines we started with.

This chart gives you an idea of all the different wine labels that are owned by Gallo. This is from the American Association of Wine Economists.
