California Wine Sales: 2020 and 2021

California wine sales were up in 2020 despite the lack of on-premise sales (bars, restaurants etc. selling for on-site consumption). Wine shipments were up one percent within the U.S. and two percent for overseas shipments compared to 2019.

2020 was a quite a year for at-home drinking

The numbers aren't in yet for 2021, but with restaurants, stores, and other businesses restocking, it's expected to be another growth year. One analyst predicts a one-to-two percent growth in the U.S.

Apparently the pandemic has given people a new reason to drink.

Off-premise sales (buying alcohol to take home) did crash in the spring of 2021 after peaking at the start of the pandemic in the spring of 2020 when everybody was buying wine and toilet paper.
