Where to get a burger in Sonoma County

So you visit for some wine tasting and think you are supposed to have some sort of fancy pants $200 dinner at the end of the day? Maybe. Or sometimes you just want a burger. Just asking you do yourself a favor and don't look for McDonald's or BK even if you have kids along.

Hamburger Ranch. Don't dress up

Hamburger Ranch and BBQ, Cloverdale
Do some people in your party want BBQ, some want a burger, and everybody wants a beer? If they call themselves a hamburger ranch they had better do it right, huh? The locals love it. Nope, doesn't look like much because this is Clover-tucky, I mean Cloverdale.

Healdsburg Bar & Grill
Get you basic Healdsburg, um, burger that's fairly inexpensive (for Healdsburg). This restaurant is run by top-rated chefs and it shows even in their burgers. You can sit outside with a beer or glass of wine and watch the people go by.

In 'n Out, Rohnert Park and Santa Rosa
Yes, it's a burger chain. If you aren't from the West and haven't eaten here before do it once. If you have teenagers along they will thank you. Okay, maybe not verbally, but just maybe they'll crack a smile.

Mike's, Cotati
Mike has retired, but the great burgers are still there. Of course, Mike was half the reason for going. He wouldn't serve fries because he thought they disrespected his burgers. He'd snarl if you didn't want cheese.

Sequoia Burger, Sebastopol
It may look like a dump, but they've been turning out what some think are the best burgers in the county for decades. Inexpensive cuz there's no atmosphere to pay for.

Sprenger's, Santa Rosa
If you are looking for a burger and a beer this is the place.

Superburger, Santa Rosa, Cotati, Windsor
If you like 'em big and greasy.

If your timing is right:
Get the mini-burgers at Stark's, Santa Rosa, during happy hour.
Cricklewood, Santa Rosa, grinds the meat daily for their lunchtime burger offering.

A light lunch at Sprenger's Tap Room

Meatless burgers: Yeah, they're around. I haven't ever tried one cuz what's the point? So you're on your own, son.
