Top Wine Brands

Sonoma County is a region of premium wines. "Premium" usually means falling between $15 and $50. And Sonoma County is full of these wines. The reality of the U.S. wine market is a bit different.

It's everywhere! It's everywhere!

The top selling American wine brands -- off-premise sales:
  1. Barefoot, by Gallo
  2. Sutter Home, by Trinchero
  3. Woodbridge, by Mondavi, owned by Constellation Brands
  4. Franzia box wine, by The Wine Group
  5. Yellow Tail, Deutsch Family Wine & Spirits

They all sell for $2.25 to $5.50 per 750 ml (standard bottle size). The most expensive out of the top 20 brands are Kendall Jackson Vintner's Reserve at #8 and Josh Cellars (another Deutsch wine) at #14. Both have an average retail price of a bit over $12.

Those top 5 brands listed above sell about as much wine in dollar value as the next 15 brands. Barefoot did $667 million last year with the next three in the $3xx million range.
