Sonoma County Lodging with a View

If you wish to stay somewhere in Sonoma County with a view your best best is on the Pacific Coast though there are places with vineyard views, too.

River's End Restaurant
Ocean View

The list is going up the coast from south to north. The first couple are semi-close to wine tasting in the Russian River Valley or Sonoma Coast areas. The others are a bit remote.

Bodega Bay Lodge
Nice lodging and restaurant overlooking Bodega Bay. Close to the town for other restaurants, cafes, shops, and sightseeing. Outstanding rooms and restaurant. I've stayed here a few times.

River's End Inn
Located in the coastal town of Jenner where the Russian River empties into the Pacific. More well-known for the River's End Restaurant sunsets they also have very nice cabins. You don't get TV or Internet access so disconnect from the real world and focus on the waves.

Fort Ross Lodge
Near the historic settlement of Fort Ross, an early 19th century Russian village, where the old fort has been recreated.

Timber Cove Resort
A half hour north of Jenner. Classy, rustic lodge. Beautiful building on a beautiful part of the coast. Restaurant on site.

Sea Ranch Lodge
Sitting in what you might call the bohemian community of Sea Ranch. Plus, they have a bed for your dog. Get away from it all and enjoy the miles of coastal trails.

Mendocino County

As you go north from Sea Ranch you enter Mendocino County where there is other coastal lodging, such as Little River Inn, plus lots of places to stay right in the town of Mendocino. This area puts you close to the Anderson Valley wine growing area known for Chardonnay, Riesling, Gewurztraminer, and Pinot Noir.

Preparing for the Coast

It can be cold and windy any time of the year even when it's hot inland. Waters can be rough so pay attention to tides and high surf warnings.

Vineyard View

Geyserville Inn and Raford Inn are the two best known for their proximity to vineyards.

A number of wineries have vineyard lodging. Here are a couple places to check. Here and here.
