Non-alcoholic wine is a recent trend. It gets lots of press about how growth is going to explode. You may or may not have heard this before with other trends. I have.

Disclaimer: I have no personal experience with N/A wine because I haven't had the desire to buy and take a chance on these. So this is all on reading others' research and opinions.
I have learned a few truths:
- Don't expect non-alcoholic wine to taste like regular wine because it won't. It is not the same without the alcohol that adds body and finish. That doesn't mean it's bad, just know that it'll be different. The wines go through fermentation and maybe some aging before the alcohol is removed, so N/A wines are not grape juice. The wines will often add botanicals to add flavor, depth, and complexity. One site suggested adding bitters, like vinegar, to balance the sweetness of some non alcoholic wines.
- Don't expect it to be cheaper because there's no alcohol. There's extra processing to remove the alcohol that requires a lot of water and electricity. So don't expect it to be friendlier to the planet.
- The biggest seller in non-alcoholic wine is sparkling as it seems to taste the best. Next is rosé, then whites. Reds seem to have a problem in getting one that tastes good.
- There is research going on trying to overcome these issues.
It seems if you are willing to experiment with N/A wines you'll have to decide if the different flavors and prices are worth it to have a wine substitute. This is why I don't believe we'll see the growth in non-alcoholic wines that many are predicting. First off, it's got to taste good and very similar to the real stuff. If you don't get that right nothing else matters. We'll see what the research comes up with.
