Since it's New Years Eve I'm in the mood to talk about sparkling wines. For some reason this is about the only time of year Americans drink bubblies--a mistake IMO.
Some of my favorites:
Gloria Ferrer / Carneros, Sonoma County
Royal Cuvee, $37. A complex and award-winning bubbly.
Iron Horse / Russian River Valley, Sonoma County
Wedding Cuvee, $44. My second favorite sparkling wine maker (after Schramsberg). Many excellent bubblies with this cuvee being a top-notch value.
Korbel / Russian River Valley, Sonoma County
Organic Brut, $15. This is not the same as their standard California Brut found in every market in America. This one is actually good and it's inexpensive as you'd expect from Korbel.
Roederer / Anderson Valley, Mendocino County
Estate Brut, $21. The best California bang-for-the-buck sparkling wine. My go-to sparkler.
Schramsberg / Napa Valley
$33-up. Not able to pinpoint just one wine from the best sparkling wine producer in the state.
